Demonstrations erupt in Minneapolis over fatal shooting by ICE officer

(MENAFN) Thousands of demonstrators filled the streets of Minneapolis on Saturday night, continuing protests sparked by the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37 year old woman killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent earlier in the week.

City officials reported that around 30 arrests were made over the weekend, while one police officer sustained minor injuries after being struck by a piece of ice.

The Trump administration has defended the ICE agent’s actions as self defense, though local authorities maintain that the victim posed no threat. The incident has fueled nationwide outrage, with anti ICE rallies also taking place in Austin, Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles.

Despite freezing temperatures, tens of thousands gathered in Minneapolis for the “ICE out of Minnesota” march, which began in Powderhorn Park. Mayor Jacob Frey described the demonstration as peaceful.

On Friday night, police declared an unlawful assembly outside the Canopy Hotel, where ICE agents were believed to be staying. Officials said several hundred people were present, and some forced entry through a side entrance. Videos shared online showed protesters shining lights, blowing whistles, and beating drums as part of the action.
