Updates for Lincoln High School Athletics and Lower Woodland Park
The Seattle Parks and Recreation Interim Superintendent has formally accepted the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners’ August 13, 2026, recommendation regarding the Lincoln High School/Lower Woodland Park Field Proposal.
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) supports Seattle Public Schools (SPS) in creating new athletic facilities. This project will benefit Lincoln High School students and expand recreational opportunities for the entire community.
How We Are Supporting the Project
SPR’s support for the SPS initiative is divided into two key parts:
- Track and Field Improvements: SPR supports upgrading the existing track and adding field events at Lower Woodland Field #7. This project can move forward through design, permitting, and construction.
- New Multi-Sport Field Study: SPR supports SPS in studying the environmental impacts associated with building a new full-size football/multi-sports field in the vicinity of the N 50th St. and Aurora Ave N parking lot. This study will take place through the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process.
Staying Transparent and Involved
To keep the community informed throughout the process, SPR is taking several steps:
- Project Liaison: SPR staff member David Graves will serve as the project liaison. He will advise on the EIS process, help scope consultant services, and participate in monthly meetings with SPS and the EIS consultant.
- Quarterly Updates: SPR will share quarterly updates during capital project presentations to the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners (BPRC).
- Public Feedback: All public comments received to date by the BPRC will be shared with SPS to inform the process moving forward.
What Comes Next?
The next major milestone for the public will be the EIS scoping meeting. SPS will lead the meeting, which will begin the SEPA EIS process.
